What to do

Beach

Ahhh, the beach! The Mediterranean Sea is the perfect place for snorkeling, kayaking, other water sports or of course, just relaxing, reading a book, eating ice cream.

Hiking

You are in one of the most beautiful regions of Spain, the Alpujarras, where you can make beautiful walks. From our garden you can make a lovely walk of about an hour and a half through the mountains. Ask us for directions. Of course you can also make more serious walks in the region, ask us for advice.

Citytrips

Granada

Granada is a must see if you ask us! This charming city is bursting with cozy tapas bars and authentic flamenco. Or get lost in the beautiful city centre with a thousand small streets and shops, with the beautiful mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the Moorish palace complex Alhambra in the background. The nice Moorish tourist shops are full of beautiful leather bags, lamps, and nice souvenirs. It is recommended to bargain.

Alhambra

Right next to Granada is the world famous Alhambra, a UNESCO heritage. Count on the fact that, especially in the summer, you have to book tickets far in advance. With medieval castles and Moorish throne halls you’ll imagine yourself in another world: definitely a highlight of Andalusia. Entrance is free up to 11 years old, €9 to 15 years old and 15+ it’s €14 p.p. By car the Alhambra is just over an hour’s drive away.

Málaga

All culture lovers can enjoy themselves here! With its many museums (Picasso) and theater, clubs, restaurants and bars you can completely go crazy here.

Polopos

Okay, okay, it’s not really a city trip. But the village of Polopos is well known for the  Dutch television hit ‘The Spanish Village’ and only 10 kilometers from where we are. So if you want to see the white mountain village for real, here’s your chance!

Which beaches?

So many lovely beaches nearby, something for everyone. We think Rijanna is the most beautiful. Beautiful beach, secluded – so no facilities – and what a view. Just past Castell de Ferro.

Fancy more excitement? Then go to the beaches of Motril with its many beach bars, restaurants and in the weekends many beach parties. A little further than Motril is the picturesque Salobreña where the local jet set likes to stay. Overlooking beautiful beaches and a Moorish castle, you will find numerous cozy restaurants.

Don’t feel like driving far? Then you can in 15 minutes to the beach of La Mamola with several restaurants & chiringuitos, 10 minutes drive away is El Lance with a delicious fish restaurant or the slightly larger village 20 minutes drive Castell de Ferro with ice cream stalls, promenade, restaurants and chiringuitos.

Sierra Nevada

The beauty of Cortijo Jamaica is that we live between the sea and the mountains. In winter, this means a unique opportunity to be in the lift of the Sierra Nevada ski area within 1.5 hours. Here you can go snowboarding, skiing – or in summer you can make beautiful walks. With more than 120 km of slopes, every winter sports fan can really enjoy themselves here. How cool is it that you have a sea view from the slopes?! On site you can rent snowboarding/skiing equipment from €10 per day. If you would like a snowboard lesson or a tour guide, Marijn is your man!

Órgiva

Órgiva is a nice hippie village in the Alpujarras, with a market every Thursday. Especially in high season the market expands over several streets and you can find everything! From your (organic) fruits and vegetables, to vintage clothing, crystals and jewelry and much more. The market starts at 8.00 and ends at 14.00.

Pampaneira

This cozy village is a typical white Spanish mountain village and is known for its handmade rugs. Located just a little further Órgiva, in the Alpujarras.

Nerja

Nerja has a beautiful beach, and you can explore the caves of Nerja. Nerja is about an hour’s drive from the highway. Entrance to caves up to 6 years free, 6+ from €11. Opening hours 9.30-17.30 and closed on 1 January and 15 May. Tickets available online.

Frigiliana

It is said that Frigiliana is the most beautiful white village in Spain, but you must have been there to say anything about it. The sea views are breathtaking and on a clear day you can see the mountains of Morocco. Frigiliana is close to Nerja and can be easily combined as a day trip. Since this cute village is full of charming alleys and steep streets, good shoes are therefore also recommended!

Wild West Park in Tabernas Desert Oasys

Many famous Western films have been shot near Almeria in the Tabernas Desert, because this region is very similar to the deserts and Far West Deserts of California. Films that were shot here are among others: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), A Fistful of Dollars (1965), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
